What to Expect

An Hour That Makes Every Decision Easier

Your free in-home design consultation is relaxed, practical and pressure-free. Here's how the visit runs.
  1. 1

    Walk the rooms

We start by listening: which rooms bother you, how you use them, when the sun hits and what you'd like to keep.
  2. 2

    Compare samples

Fabric books, shade materials, blind slats, shutter louvers and motor demos — all seen in your own light.
  3. 3

    Measure precisely

Every opening is measured by the designer, noting trim, jamb depth, radiators, vents and floor variance.
  4. 4

    Written quote

You get an itemized quote per window so you can do the whole house or phase room by room.

Be Ready

How to Prepare for Your Visit

You don't need to know product names or have a plan — that's our job. But a little preparation helps us make the most of the hour. If you already love a fabric or color, have it handy so we can pull coordinating options on the spot.

Want inspiration first? Browse the project gallery, read client reviews, or check current specials.

  • List the rooms you want to discuss
  • Snap photos of rooms you love
  • Set out a pillow, rug or paint chip
  • Clear access to the windows
  • Think about budget and timing
  • Invite anyone who helps decide

Designer Tips

Six Guidelines Our Designers Swear By

Whether you are treating one window or an entire house, these principles help you make confident choices before your consultation.
1

Start with how the room is used

A bedroom needs darkness and quiet, a home office needs glare control, a family room needs durability and easy operation. Function first, then style — the right fabric or shade follows naturally once we know what the room has to do every day.

2

Mount higher and wider than you think

Hanging drapery hardware close to the ceiling and extending it past the window casing makes windows look taller and lets panels stack off the glass. It is the single easiest way to make a room feel bigger and brighter.

3

Layer for flexibility

A functional shade underneath and decorative drapery on top gives you privacy by day, darkness at night and softness year-round. Layering also adds insulation that you will notice during a Greater Boston winter.

4

Mind the sun

South- and west-facing rooms fade floors, rugs and upholstery. Solar shades, lined drapery and UV-resistant fabrics protect what you have invested in without shutting out the view.

5

Keep kids and pets safe

Cordless lifts and motorized shades remove dangling cords entirely. We recommend them by default in nurseries, children's rooms and any home with curious pets.

6

Think about the whole house

Consistent shade colors and hardware finishes from the street give a home a tidy, cohesive look, even when every room inside uses a different style. We plan exterior appearance as carefully as interior design.

FAQ

Consultation Questions

Still have a question? Call (781) 899-1811 or email info@designsinblinds.com.

Is the in-home consultation really free?

Yes. There is no charge and no obligation. You receive a written, itemized quote you can take your time with.

How long does the visit take?

Most consultations last about an hour. Whole-house projects with many windows may take a bit longer.

How soon can you come out?

We reply within one business day to schedule, and visits are available on weekdays and Saturdays.

Do I need to know what I want?

Not at all. Many clients just know a room is too bright, too cold or unfinished. We'll show you options and explain the trade-offs.

Can you measure during the first visit?

Yes — we measure every opening during the consultation so your quote is accurate from the start.

What if I'd rather visit the showroom?

You're welcome at our Moody Street showroom during business hours, and we can still schedule a measuring visit afterward.
