Farmhouses near Nine Acre Corner and Thoreau Street often date back further than most towns we visit, with hand-planed casings and openings that have shifted a little over two centuries. Center-entrance colonials cluster near Monument Square and West Concord, usually with symmetrical facades and deep window wells original to the house.
A lot of our calls come from a mismatch: a family keeps the historic front rooms intact while adding a sunroom or glass-walled family room at the back facing the conservation land. We end up measuring a 200-year-old double-hung in the dining room and a modern eight-foot slider in the addition on the same visit, which is a fairly normal day for us in Concord.
